FAQ

Q: I have a scratch on the left fender of my Audi TT coupe. Can it be buffed out?

A: If you can drag your fingernail across the scratch and feel it hang. It probably won't buff out. Sometimes you can color sand the scratch and then buff it. You have to be careful not to remove too much clearcoat during the color sanding because if you do, it may leave the basecoat unprotected. Todays high solid clears have a UV protectant much like sunscreen does.
If your fingernail doesn't hang in the scratch, then it will probably buff by using a fine white hand rubbing compound.

Q: The  fiberglass nose on my vintage formula ford has become heavier through the years due to repeated repairs. Is there anything that can be done to reduce the weight of the part?

A: Just like people, race cars tend to get more brittle and heavier with age. Especially if they're still being raced. If the glass is old and has a great deal of filler in it, the best thing to do is get another piece. We have seen parts like this that have been crashed and repaired so often that they will crack under their own weight. Often the part can be lightened by removing most of the filler. coating the entire part in glass and using lightweight filler only where neccisary. That method can be as expensive as a new part though. Another option is making a mold off of your old nose and duplicating it. Again that can be costly. But if the part can't be found it might be your only option.
